Call for expressions of interest: Attend a BP Commission meeting as an observer

The British Pharmacopoeia (BP) is pleased to invite expressions of interest from individuals who would like to attend a BP Commission meeting as an observer.
This is a unique opportunity to gain insight into how the UK’s official medicines standards are developed, reviewed and maintained, for both human and veterinary medicines.

What is a BP Commission meeting?
The British Pharmacopoeia Commission is the statutory body responsible for developing and maintaining the BP - the UK’s official collection of quality standards for medicinal substances and products.
A BP Commission meeting is where:
- draft monographs and standards are reviewed, discussed and approved
- Expert Advisory Group recommendations are considered
- scientific, regulatory and policy matters affecting the BP are debated
- strategic decisions are made to ensure the BP remains scientifically robust, aligned with international expectations, and fit for use across healthcare and industry.
These meetings bring together leading experts in pharmacy, analytical science, regulation, industry and academia. As an observer, you will have the opportunity to watch this process firsthand.
What observers can expect
Observers will:
- attend a live BP Commission meeting (virtually)
- gain behind the scenes insight into the BP’s decision making processes the scenes insight into the BP’s decision making processes
- understand how standards move from draft to publication
- see the role of scientific, regulatory and stakeholder input in shaping the BP
Please note that observers do not take part in discussions and will be asked to adhere to confidentiality requirements. Observers will not be paid for their time at the meeting.
Who can apply?
This opportunity is open to, but is not limited to, analysts in training, academics, industry professionals, patient representative groups, international regulatory groups and/or prospective members of the BPC or EAG groups, from recognised academic or professional bodies, who have an interest in:
- pharmacopoeial standards
- medicines regulation
- pharmaceutical analysis
- quality assurance
- pharmacy, life sciences, or related fields
No prior committee experience is required.
