New packages and pricing for the British Pharmacopoeia 2026 edition
Published 28 May 2025
The British Pharmacopoeia (BP) 2026 edition will be published on 1 August 2025, and we are making changes so that it is easier to select the best format that meets your needs and delivers value for money.
The BP 2026 edition will continue to make an important contribution to the role of the MHRA in protecting public health by providing quality standards for UK pharmaceutical substances and medicinal products. It is a vital reference tool for all individuals and organisations involved in pharmaceutical research, development, manufacturing, quality control, analysis and regulatory affairs. The 2026 edition includes new and improved monographs and guidance, including all the European Pharmacopoeia (Ph. Eur.) texts. The recently updated website includes personalised dashboards, favourites features, enhanced security, and stay connected tools.
Improved flexibility, better value for money
Recent independent research revealed that our customers value greater flexibility in choosing their preferred formats. Many respondents noted that they rarely used the print version and had only selected the complete package to access both digital formats (online licence and download). Because we want to deliver the best experience for our customers, we are removing the complete package and introducing new options that allow our customers to build tailored packages that meet their needs more closely and improve value for money.
BP online offers you more
As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, we are encouraging customers to make greater use of online licences by keeping digital prices as low as possible. Since the last edition, we have worked hard to improve and enhance the digital content and user experience across the BP portfolio of online products. Customers have told us that the changes have improved usability and increased productivity. The online version is updated with in-year updates, so you can stay up to date with new Ph. Eur. content throughout the year. If you prefer our printed edition, the BP 2026 six-volume print set remains available.
Continuing improvements for our customers
Our focus has always been on providing the best possible guidance for the standardisation of medicines and we work alongside leading experts to explore new areas. We also concentrate on making this guidance accessible in a variety of formats for all our customers around the world. New package formats make it easier to choose what customers need. For more than ten years, the BP Commission and its publishing partner, TSO, have maintained stable prices despite increasing production, fulfilment, and inflation-related costs. To ensure we can continue providing the high-quality standards and services customers depend on, some adjustments to our prices have been made.
Customer feedback:
“The new layout is good. It feels more modern. There’s a bit more on the front page about what is going on, updates, that feels more modern. The change tracker and timeline on the online is so helpful.” - Reg Affairs interviewee.
“Updates are much clearer now and ease of use is more straightforward. It used to take a day to create a new spec. Now we can get through the whole process including approval much quicker and have the whole order completed in a day.” - QA interviewee.
The following changes will take effect for the BP 2026 edition.
