Changes to the way you access your organisation’s BP licence
Date published: 31 October 2024
At the MHRA and TSO, feedback is extremely important to us. Therefore, we are implementing changes to how multi-user licence holders access the BP.
These updates will bring personalised features, allowing favourites to be saved and simplify purchasing BP publications and chemical reference standards. You will also discover new ways to stay informed with the latest news from the BP and MHRA teams.
To provide more tailored support, we have split this guide into two separate sections based on your job role: one for Licence Managers and one for End Users. Please ensure you refer to the guide that best matches your role within the organisation.
End User
Our first step in this transition is updating how the BP is accessed online. Currently, some users share a username and password, while others gain automatic access through their network. Soon, all users will have individual accounts. Our customer service department will manage this process, so no further action is needed on your part.
Once your organisation's account is updated, you will no longer be able to access BP online through your usual method. At that point, you will either receive an email invitation to join your organisation's account or, if your organisation uses domain recognition, you will need to self-register using the registration form.
If you're unsure which option will apply when your usual access method no longer works, try logging in through the self-registration form or contact your organisation's licence administrator. If you're unsure who your licence administrator is, contact our team at +44 (0) 333 0917 023 and provide the name displayed in the top right corner of your screen after logging in.
This user guide outlines the steps you and your colleagues need to follow once you have determined your registration method.
Please note: every six months you will be asked to re-confirm your email upon logging in to ensure you are still associated with your organisation.
If you are accessing via OpenAthens or part of an academic institute, your access authentication will remain in place. Changes will be applied to your licence before the end of this year. We will keep you updated as this progresses.
Licence Managers
This year, we are making changes to how users access the BP online that will introduce individual accounts per user, with access via their own secure username and password. This will allow all users to benefit from personalisation features such as favourites and provide the ability to use the BPCRS shop and the publication shops. It will also allow people to stay up to date with the latest news from the BP team and the MHRA.
When you renew to BP 2025 online, we will work with you to agree a date for when your access method will change from a shared username and password or IP Access for your users, to individual accounts per user, accessing via their own secure username and password.
There will be two options available to you for your users to link to your account:
- Licence managers can invite users by entering their email address.
- Your users can self-register using an email which matches a list of domains associated with your organisation’s licence.
To enable this, the organisation’s account will also require an update. Licence managers will be issued a new password to secure their account which will also grant access to the admin portal where in addition to the above you can:
- invite and remove users
- obtain usage statistics for users
- view licence details
- invite colleagues to be additional Licence managers
This user guide for Licence managers will help you to navigate the new tools available. Additionally, we ask you to circulate this guide to your known users, which outlines the steps they will need to take once your account has been switched over.
