Key Insights: A guide to the ‘More Resources’ tab

Published 30 January 2026

We are pleased to announce the return of the Key Insights series, publishing at regular monthly intervals. In this article, we are sharing insights into the ‘More Resources’ tab when viewing BP monographs.

Unlocking practical support and guidance for BP users

We regularly hear from users by email and during webinar Q&A sessions who want to get more from the extra guidance published alongside BP monographs. To support this, we are sharing insights into the ‘More Resources’ tab. It offers practical material that helps you apply the standards with confidence and strengthen your understanding of the analytical methods.

What’s in the ‘More Resources’ tab?

When you view a BP monograph, look for the ‘More Resources’ tab above the monograph title. Here, you’ll find additional materials that go beyond the core, legally binding text. These resources are intended to help you interpret and apply BP standards more easily in your day-to-day work. Please note: the More Resources tab is not available on all monographs.

Use the 'More Resources' tab to:

  • deepen your understanding of BP methods with real-world examples
  • explore ways to make your methods more sustainable
  • stay up to date with guidance on modern analytical approaches like AQbD

Example chromatograms

Visual examples can make complex analytical procedures much clearer. The example chromatograms in the ‘More Resources’ tab provide reference points to help you understand expected outcomes, interpret your results, and troubleshoot issues. While these chromatograms are not part of the official, legally binding monograph, they are invaluable for method development and analysis.

Scaled methods

To encourage more sustainable practices, the British Pharmacopoeia (BP) Secretariat develops and publishes scaled methods as additional resources. The ‘More Resources’ tab includes information on how Dissolution, Assay, and Related Substances methods for several BP monographs have been assessed using geometric scaling of column dimensions and chromatographic parameters. The aim is to reduce solvent use and minimise environmental impact.

For a good example, explore the ‘More Resources’ tabs in the Ibuprofen product monographs published in BP 2026, which showcase the BP’s sustainability efforts.

Analytical Quality by Design (AQbD) Guidance

The ‘More Resources’ tab also provides guidance on Analytical Quality by Design (AQbD) principles. This content helps users understand how to apply AQbD concepts within BP methods, supporting robust, reliable, and flexible analytical testing. The AQbD guidance is designed to share knowledge gained during the development of pharmacopoeial methods. For an example, see the guidance accompanying the BP monograph for Atorvastatin Tablets.

If you’re interested in contributing to the BP’s work on AQbD, please contact the BP Secretariat to learn how you can become a technical advisor.

What else is in More Resources?

If the monograph in question is currently featured in the quarterly public consultation you will be able to find a link to the draft revised text and if the BP is making a correction to a future edition of a monograph you may find an official “Letter of Intent” which will detail any important information about an upcoming revision.

We encourage you to explore the ‘More Resources’ tab whenever you consult a BP monograph. Our aim is to make your experience with the BP more helpful, practical, and empowering - so you can focus on delivering high-quality analytical results.

Important Note: Support, not regulation

It’s important to note that none of the content in the ‘More Resources’ tab forms part of the legally binding BP monograph text. These materials are supplementary - they are there to assist you, not to set requirements. Their purpose is to enhance your understanding, offer practical tips, and help you use BP standards with confidence.
