The BP would like your views on newly published draft texts

Published 7 April 2025

As part of continued work to ensure the British Pharmacopoeia (BP) is updated with new and improved quality standards and relevant guidance, we routinely upload new and revised draft texts for public consultation and feedback.

It is important to us that you, a user of the BP, have the chance to offer your views on these draft texts before they become a legal standard.

This public consultation period contains 5 draft texts.

4 new monographs for:

  • Carvedilol Oral Suspension

  • Gliclazide Oral Suspension

  • Juniper Tincture

  • Topiramate Tablets

1 revised monograph for:

  • Trihexyphenidyl Tablets

Carvedilol Oral Suspension and Gliclazide Oral Suspension

Two of the monographs in this public consultation are for medicines supplied in the UK as unlicensed medicines. Unlicensed products are manufactured under a Manufacturer’s ‘Specials’ Licence or prepared under the supervision of a pharmacist, in accordance with the Human Medicines Regulations 2012.

The BP provides methods and standards for unlicensed formulations that often lack publicly available standards.

Both Carvedilol Oral Suspension and Gliclazide Oral Suspension products were in the top 100 specials orders in 2024. These monographs will support hospitals and pharmacies across the UK.
