Changes to OpenAthens Access and introduction of Shibboleth

From December 2024, users will be able to access the BP online via OpenAthens and Shibboleth.

These updates will bring personalised features such as favourites and the BP dashboard, offering quick links to frequently accessed content and recently viewed items. Users will also have the option to register their personal information to receive update alerts and stay informed with the latest news from the BP and MHRA teams.

Information for end users currently using OpenAthens access

Currently, when you access BP, you do so via a button on the homepage labelled ‘Login with OpenAthens’. This will move to the general login page and be relabelled ‘Login with your institution’.

Once you are logged in you will benefit from the new features mentioned above and will have the option to register with your personal information to enable alerts for updated text and sign up to the latest news from the BP and MHRA teams.

Information for licence managers

If you manage a university subscription and would like to manage your university access via OpenAthens or Shibboleth, please contact us and we can arrange this for you. 

If you are currently using OpenAthens and IP recognition

IP recognition is being removed for all OpenAthens users on 23 December 2024. To avoid disruption, please make sure all your users  are directed to OpenAthens for access.

If you are currently using OpenAthens, you do not need to take any action, these changes will come into effect and your users can continue to access as usual with the features mentioned above.
